I'M HERE TO EMPOWER YOU!

I’m an artist . . . but that’s not saying much, because I believe, and it is something that I have devoted my time heavily to convey, that art expression is an inherent property of human nature. The media may vary, but not the innate disposition.

Those that know me have heard my “talent-as-myth” diatribe all too often, and if you end up tuning in to my posts, you will encounter it soon enough. It is my goal to change the notion, which a great number of people resign to, that one needs to have “talent” to pursue the art they feel or want and am doing this on a daily basis through my program in the G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers.

With that as preface, I will probably devote a portion of my posts to inspiring artists, but I also plan to impart other conceptions that I have about life in general, with the goal of elevating, encouraging, enlivening or energizing those who read them.

Let me begin with this:

I wish for you the ability to create for yourself all that your heart desires.

Signup here for Blurs and Unsharp Photography: Guided Play 2017

This is a special program on the art and weird science of motion blurs, intentional camera movement, long exposures, and much more, offered through the G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers . I will be taking on a small group of people for a free eight week online mentorship which will include lessons, assignments, and informal discussions. This is going to be huge fun, and a great learning experience!

To me, blurs and unsharp photography have represented a new dimension of artistic freedom – a fresh and joyous way to play with light, color, form… and sometimes their absence. My hope is to inspire some of you to find more of that joy in your own photography, and to offer some techniques, tips and tools to help, along with plenty of practice!

My own photography has benefited enormously from mentorships and coaching offered by Nathan Beaulne, Robin Griggs Wood, Darryl Van Gaal, Sairam Sundaresan, Eric Raeber, Brian Wood-Koiwa, and others here on G+, and my artistic partnership with my #brotherinblur Heiko Mahr who will join me for this program as well. I’ve had the chance to assist with a number of additional programs, and now to serve as a director of the overall Mentorship Program along with Robin and Ron Clifford; I’m delighted to have the opportunity to offer my own favorite subject once again! To add to the fun, I've invited the people who participated in and assisted with the last three years' programs to help out this time around, so we'll have all of that fabulous experience in the group.

We’ll be covering a range of topics, including not just how to take certain kinds of images (and sometimes why), but also tools in post-processing and phone apps. My goal is to be able to offer the program to you regardless of the tools you use to capture (or process) images – DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, point & shoot cameras, or Apple or Android smartphones (1). You’ll need to be familiar with the manual operation of any camera, have at least a basic understanding of the Exposure Triangle, and have time to take at least 100-200 photos per week and perhaps many more (because practice with your hands will be key to some techniques; just knowing how won’t be enough). You’ll also need to spend quality time in a (private) community supporting, enjoying, learning from and teaching your fellow participants!

Selections will be announced on Tuesday, May 16, and the first lesson will be posted on Thursday, May 18. The program will run eight weeks, through July 13.

These are the selection criteria:

• You must be taking and publicly posting your own photographs regularly here on G+ –– at least a public (or public collection) photo post every few days, and more is better (the program itself will be private to the group selected, except for the option of a public display album of your favorite work at the end).
• You must be interactive here on G+, as you will be expected to participate in this program giving feedback and comments to others.
• You must have the time available to participate in this workshop.

To be considered for selection, please answer the following questions, on the main post only, here:
https://plus.google.com/+AlexLapidus/posts/diAFj4moGn8
(your application will not be seen at any reshares). Please note that signups are not first-come, first-served, and comments will remain open for at least a few days, so please don’t worry if you’re not first in line.

1) Cameras (including smartphones) you expect to use in the program
2) Photo editing software and apps used most
3) Your goals for this mentorship
4) Amount of time you have available for participation

(1) There is at least one topic I've found it difficult to address if you’re using a point&shoot camera or smartphone alone (call it half of one of the eight weeks). The ideal combination would be DSLR or mirrorless plus a phone, and if you use only a P&S it needs to be capable of full manual shooting (shutter speed, aperture and ISO).

The FINDING YOUR VISION mentorship is ready for sign-ups!

The FINDING YOUR VISION mentorship is ready for sign-ups!
**********************************************************

This is a special program designed specifically for beginner to intermediate Street Photographers. (Please note "Beginner" means you've shot some Street Photography prior to taking this mentorship)

In this mentorship I will share my Understanding of the elements that make a strong image. Firstly by analysing images captured. Secondly by increased awareness through mindful practice at Street. By the end of the mentorship, participants will have a better understanding of these elements, that should be reflected in their images.
Also a better understand principles of design and their own personal vision.

This mentorship is offered through the G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers

I will be taking on a handful of people for an 8 week on-line mentorship program which will include lessons, assignments, and informal discussions. Everyone who participates can have fun and learn at the same time!

I’ve been taking photos for just over 30 years, and have specialised in Street Photography for the past 2 years.
I’m a Sphere 2 graduate from the Arcanum. Most of my Street Photography has been self taught, but also formally through workshops and the Arcanum.

You will need to be available to shoot at street at least once a week for 6 of the 8 week program.
Assignments will be posted on a Friday so you need have time available to complete them each week.

#WhenTheBuyingStopsTheKillingCanToo
"Tigers face many challenges in the wild, from loss of habitat to conflicts with humans, but the biggest threat continues to be poaching. Tigers are killed by poachers who illegally sell tiger body parts, mostly for folk remedies. People can help protect wild tigers by avoiding products made with non-sustainable palm oil, an industry that harms tiger habitat; and by refusing to purchase items made from endangered wildlife."
(source: http://zoonooz.sandiegozoo.org)

Here is how tigers are used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrzt-zHIdf0 ... and there is no scientific evidence that the use has any genuine effect, except placebo (the person's mind and belief making them well). Why does a tiger have to die for this?! It baffles the mind.
