I'M HERE TO EMPOWER YOU!

I’m an artist . . . but that’s not saying much, because I believe, and it is something that I have devoted my time heavily to convey, that art expression is an inherent property of human nature. The media may vary, but not the innate disposition.

Those that know me have heard my “talent-as-myth” diatribe all too often, and if you end up tuning in to my posts, you will encounter it soon enough. It is my goal to change the notion, which a great number of people resign to, that one needs to have “talent” to pursue the art they feel or want and am doing this on a daily basis through my program in the G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers.

With that as preface, I will probably devote a portion of my posts to inspiring artists, but I also plan to impart other conceptions that I have about life in general, with the goal of elevating, encouraging, enlivening or energizing those who read them.

Let me begin with this:

I wish for you the ability to create for yourself all that your heart desires.

It's been said that Los Angeles is the most photographed city in the world.*
Here's one more.

(Well, with "embellishments" … ;o))

  1. It also has been said that the #smog is the reason Los Angeles has so much beautiful sunshine.

  2. Robin Griggs Wood Beautiful! Two questions: How did you get the parachute chords to show up so well and how did you allow viewer to see the buildings in the background. I have assumed the parachutes were added to the image.

Second, on the second level deck of the left middle building top, there appears to be some type of ramp that has handrails around it that goes right to the edge of the roof as if that is where a parachutist could jump off. What is that? Thanks! Great work as always!

  5. Shelly Gunderson-- thank you, dear! Christer Westerlund -- thank you, my friend!! Carmen Mandich -- thank you, kindly!
Paul Johnston -- thank you! Yes, it is a composite (the parachuters and the clouds were added). The cords were added by hand, using a super-tiny brush in Ps––click, hold down the Shift key and click again at the desired spot to draw a perfectly straight line (works only with Shape Dynamics turned off in the Brush palette). I'm not sure I understand your question "how did you allow viewer to see the buildings in the background" ... can you state that a different way? The platforms on the tops of the buildings are their helicopter landing/takeoff spots (it's downtown L.A.) ... and, yes, I suppose that would be a great place for a paraglider to jump from (... but you won't catch me doing that! ... ;oD)

  6. Robin Griggs Wood Thanks you for all the information. I understand all you did. Since you drew the parachute chords in, naturally you would be able to see the building behind. I like those chords. I had wondered if the parachutes had some pre-existing background and how you were able to get rid of the background or blend such that the buildings became visible.

I appreciate the time you gave to answer my question. Thank you!
