I'M HERE TO EMPOWER YOU!
I’m an artist . . . but that’s not saying much, because I believe, and it is something that I have devoted my time heavily to convey, that art expression is an inherent property of human nature. The media may vary, but not the innate disposition.
Those that know me have heard my “talent-as-myth” diatribe all too often, and if you end up tuning in to my posts, you will encounter it soon enough. It is my goal to change the notion, which a great number of people resign to, that one needs to have “talent” to pursue the art they feel or want and am doing this on a daily basis through my program in the G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers.
With that as preface, I will probably devote a portion of my posts to inspiring artists, but I also plan to impart other conceptions that I have about life in general, with the goal of elevating, encouraging, enlivening or energizing those who read them.
Let me begin with this:
I wish for you the ability to create for yourself all that your heart desires.

We stopped by "Arch Rock" in the Valley of Fire, Nevada. I was thinking "epic arch" in my mind as we drove to it, but I was underwhelmed due to it's size. It's not that it isn't cool, I just had other ideas about it. Well, lemons and lemonade, you know ... as every element I shoot gives me new ideas for composites and an archway does make a nice frame for a winged damsel seeking a soulmate ... :o)

ReplyDeleteLovely Robin Griggs Wood and you do know how to make lemonade out of lemons :O
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely fantastic Robin Griggs Wood. You didn't just make lemonade, you planted an orchard ans started a lemonade factory.
ReplyDeleteNow that's some lemonade I'd gladly drink (not generally a fan of the stuff). Beautiful creation, Robin Griggs Wood.

ReplyDeleteNow that's what I'm talkin' about! I think about half of what I shot in the desert and ghost town was made with "Oooh, this would be an interesting composite background!" in mind.

ReplyDeleteNatosha Davis -- my own particular process is that the images sort of "create themselves" as I go. I started editing the arch shot like I would edit any shot, and decided to do a water reflection concept; then I felt it would be more interesting with a darker sky (something foreboding); then I grabbed a couple of guys that I shot on the ridge that day in the same light and put them in the arch, but it still didn't have the "punch" I was looking for; then I thought about this gal that I had shots of from a photoshoot and put her in there ... then the wings popped into my head. I hope that gives you enough feel for the creative process, if not all the editing I went through ... ;o)
Shelly Gunderson -- thank you, dear!

ReplyDeleteTanya Wallis ... :o)*
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful Robin Griggs Wood! Sometime I would love if you'd bring it into the cohort and talk a little about how you created this! I am especially enamored with the water.
ReplyDeleteChristina Lihani ... Sphere II is coming .... ;o)))
ReplyDelete...But I'll toss one little "secret" your way ... I'm playing with Flaming Pear's "Flood" ... :oD. All stuff that I can do procedurally in Ps, but Flood has sliders; quick and easy ... and, it works in 16bit, which some of the Ps native tools I'd used for the procedural do not. Free for 30 days (of use, so even if you only play with it once a week, that's 30 weeks)––you might have fun with it!
Oh, and thank you, dear ... :o)
Something to look forward to Robin Griggs Wood! I have Flood but haven't much played with it. I had assumed that it expired but I see now it hasn't!
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS NICE, REALLY NICE INDEED.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that is a sweet plugin! I didn't know about Flaming Pear - thank you! *scurries off to drown all the things*
ReplyDeletePat Kight -- please keep a box of granola bars or something nourishing and non-perishable by your workstation ... it's easy to get lost in for days ... ;o))
